काठमाडौं । महिनौँको अनिश्चितता पछि, संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका (अमेरिका)ले ६९७ मिलियन अमेरिकी डलरको मिलेनियम च्यालेन्ज कर्पोरेशन (MCC) नेपालको कम्प्याक्टलाई निरन्तरता दिने औपचारिक निर्णय गरेको छ— जसले महत्वपूर्ण राजमार्ग र प्रसारण लाइन परियोजनाहरूमा प्रगति सुनिश्चित गर्नेछ।
राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रम्पको नेतृत्वमा एलन मस्कद्वारा अगुवाई गरिएका DOGE सुधारका कारण USAID बन्द हुने र MCC पनि संकटमा पर्ने खतरा रहेको अवस्थामा, नेपालका MCC परियोजनाहरू पुनः सही मार्गमा फर्किएका छन्।
यो निर्णय अमेरिकी विदेश मन्त्रालयको समीक्षापछि गरिएको हो र नेपाल सरकारलाई औपचारिक रूपमा जानकारी गराइएको छ।
सन् २०१७ मा हस्ताक्षर भएको यो MCC कम्प्याक्ट लामो समयदेखि नेपालमा राजनीतिक बहसको केन्द्रबिन्दु रहँदै आएको छ। यसलाई कतिपयले इन्डो–प्यासिफिक क्षेत्रमा अमेरिकाको रणनीतिक स्वार्थसँग जोडिएको आरोप पनि लगाउँदै आएका थिए।
तर अहिले आर्थिक सहयोग सुनिश्चित भएको अवस्थामा, नेपालले ऊर्जा तथा व्यापारसँग सम्बन्धित पूर्वाधार स्तरोन्नतिको काम पुनः सुरु गर्नसक्नेछ।
